The show's innovative format features four stages of competiton: the blind auditions, the battle rounds, the knockouts and finally, the live performance shows. During the blind auditons, the decisions from the musician coaches are based solely on the voice and not looks. The coaches hear the artists perform, but they don't get to see them-thanks to rotating chairs. When a coach hears a voice that they like they push a button and their chair rotates and when the vocalist is done singing he/she has the choice to pick whose team they want to be on.
